Ah! Good stuff PK. The parallel for us then is we are not to get caught up in the ways of our culture, instead, stay failthful to your spouse, cherish your children( even the unborn), trust in the Lord - not government, don't get caught up in materialism and vanity, .... And, its ok to cut your hair - in fact baldness may be the ideal. :-)

Great thoughts Gordon! Here are a few things to consider:

1. Hebrews is typically seen as the "sister book" to Leviticus.
2. All throughout Leviticus we have seen physical representations of a deeper reality - namely the sacrificing of animals as a picture of the bigger sacrifice of Jesus for all humanity.
3. In that sense - could the various physical laws point to a bigger reality as well? "Don't do such and such" really means something deeper?

Maybe the issue for them was - tatoos and long hair and sacrificing your children to Molech were all things their neighbors did. The same neighbors that did not know God (and were about to be vomited out of the land - Lev 20:22-24).

Then the BIGGER reality for us would be to not copy our culture and what those who do not know God do around US?

This book of Leviticus is tough. Is it mainly a historical book, listing God's decrees for the people of Israel, at that time, or does it have more far reaching significance. What is the message for us? Would we be more obedient to God if we ... only ate animals that have a split hoof and that chew the cud? ...did not cut the hair on the sides of our head? did not put tatoo marks on ourselves? How come we abide by some scriptures, and ignore others? SDG, Gordon
